WestWyck occupies the building and grounds of the former Brunswick West Primary School in inner suburban Melbourne. The school ran out of students in the 1980s and threatened to become yet another example of quality inner-urban infrastructure that had lost its original function and faced the bulldozer.
Instead, the WestWyck developers aimed to bring the building to new and vibrant life as an urban demonstration showpiece of sustainable development and good design.

One of the interesting exhibits we took in when we first arrived in Toronto was the results of a sustainable housing design contest presented at the Design Exchange.

I found the Design Exchange space itself very interesting, but the exhibit was infuriating due to the incredible poor information and graphic design the entrants used to present the details of their fully realised models and proposals. Poor type choices, no regard for layout and signage so crammed with information as to discourage any attempts at serious reading in theinstallation conditions.

It was a sharp contrast to the generally high quality work presented and the slick presentation of the information explaining the point of the exhibit.
