NYC - UES - MCNY: New York Toy Stories - Build-Your-Own New York World's Fair
New York Toy Stories, a permanent exhibit at the Museum of the City of New York, explores New York childhood over the last 200 years through toys, games, cast-iron vehicles, and the Stettheimer doll house – all owned or made by New Yorkers.
The Museum of the City of New York (MCNY), founded in 1923 to present the history of New York City and its people, fills an imposing 5-floor brick and limestone building on the Museum Mile section of Fifth Avenue, between 103rd and 104th Streets. The Museum was originally housed in Gracie Mansion until this Neo-Georgian-Colonial style was built to the design of Joseph J. Freedlander from 1928-1930. The museum's collections include paintings, drawings, prints, and photographs featuring New York City and its residents, as well as costumes, decorative objects and furniture, toys, rare books and manuscripts, marine and military collections, police and fire collections, and a theater collection.
Commodore 64 Flashback: Racing Destruction Set by Electronic Arts
I was big on all of EA's "Construction Set" games in the early to mid-1980s. This is no exception.
Racing Destruction Set was developed by Rick Koenig, with art by Connie Goldman and music by David Warhol. (All part of the "Blue Sky Rangers", Mattel Electronics' in-house game development team for the Intellivision!)
Not only could you race against your opponent, you could trip up your opponent with landmines or oil slicks, and, of course, the "Construction" aspect of the game - Designing your own tracks, tweaking the elevations, adding ramps, racing on ice or sand as well as the regular tracks, changing the gravity, customizing your vehicles - Good fun on a Saturday afternoon, or any day (or night) of the week.
