Another view of the former Eastgate Coffee House, designed by Edward Burgess in 1885, now newly re-painted and repaired and looking marvelous, thanks to pressure from the Leicester City Council Conservation Team and the Victorian Society. It's also now been listed Grade II.

The gabled building on the left is all that remains of the Great Northern Coffee House, designed (I think) by Edward Burgess for the Leicester Coffee and Cocoa House Company in the early 1880s.

I don't know anything about the building on the right, another good red brick Victorian pile, surviving well despite not being listed (I think I'm right that there are no listed buildings on Belgrave Road).

A picture of the coffee house can be found in Malcolm Elliot's excellent essay "The Leicester Coffee and Cocoa House Movement" avaialble on the Leicester Archaeological and Historical Society website.

Footage of this coffee house (in its entirety) can be seen here (from 01.49) in a film from the MACE archives.

Coffee Language [4:365]

Classic (well, > 10 years) coffee cups at UCLA have the word for coffee in many different languages printed on the side of the cup. It's a good design that's stood the test of time.
