Heale is a Carolean manor house (not open to the public) near Salisbury where Charles II hid during his escape in 1651.

The gardens open in February and have wonderful herbaceous borders and shrub roses growing against the formal backdrop of clipped hedges and mellow stonework. Some of the garden was designed by Harold Peto in 1910 including the terraces and stone lily ponds. In the spring drifts of snowdrops and aconites provide early colour.

The garden is particularly beautiful in June when the huge collection of shrub, musk and other roses are in bloom.

The water garden surrounding the genuine Japanese tea-house and Nikko bridge is especially lovely in the spring and autumn.

The red painted bridge crosses a little tributary of the River Avon which borders the garden. The walled kitchen garden has espaliered fruit trees and apple tunnels with flowers and clipped box balls growing beneath the trees.

The Corwa Japanese Garden is a must-see if you ever happen to be passing through this area. It's definitely worth spending time at this beautiful peaceful garden.

The Garden was opened in 1979, and was created by Ken Nakajima. It is designed to embody the entire landscape of Japan, where every bend takes the visitor on a voyage of discovery.
