From top left: (1) Hale House, (2) Moyer House, (3) Lounsbury House, (4) Hambly House, (5) Mapes House, and (6) Taylor House

(1) by William Souter and (3) by Edward Glass. We don't know the architects of the other houses but it is likely that Souter and Glass designed more than one house.

Which of the other houses did they likely design?

Sunburst design painted glass pane high in the living room. It makes lovely light patterns on the floor. Sue is currently working on its twin on the west side of the living area – a frog with reeds under a low moon. Painting glass is fun and makes a change from plastering. Adhesive lead strips are clever inventions, giving a stained glass feel to painted glass. - The painted glass panes are an unplanned addition to the house. When we were building the straw walls, it appeared to us that the top corners of the living area were turning into black holes and could use some light and decoration. We talked to our carpenters and they added two more rough openings. More work and expense than if we'd simply baled and plastered these areas, but we think the results will be worth it.

Today, I got to visit Terry Stringer & Tim McWhannell's house at Mahurangi. Stringer designed the house himself and it has some beautiful detail.
